The Beginnings
Quite by chance, I came into contact with a professional astrologer working in the West in 1996. Up until that point, I was quite familiar with the various zodiac signs of astrology and the “traits” attributed to them. However, I had always dismissed the idea of a connection between horoscopes and human life.
Ever since I was a child, I have been a regular visitor to nearly every new show at my city’s planetarium, and I still attend these shows to this day. The question...
For me, as for many people, the question of “fate” was a mystery, but its explanation could not possibly be “written in the stars.”
I found the detailed description in an astrological reading astonishing and began to delve deeply into the subject myself.
I learned how many parts make up a complete horoscope and the painstaking work an astrologer puts into piecing these elements together into a coherent whole.
Mentor and Training
After several years and countless astrological analyses, I had an eye-opening experience when I met my first Jyotish mentor, whom I still hold in high regard today:
He asked me a series of probing questions about astrology in general and also about a couple specific horoscopes. These questions I could not answer using the methods and techniques available to me at the time. For example, when presented with two horoscopes:
One of these two people is blind. Which one?
These are the kinds of questions an Indian astrologer should be able to answer with ease.
Without realizing it, he opened the door to India for me and thus to the mother of all astrology.
He introduced me to the “lion’s den” of spiritual teachings: Jyotish.
This oldest form of traditional astrology captivated me and from then on completely consumed my time and attention.
I have completed a rigorous and comprehensive in-person training program at the Astrovedic Academy and passed a comprehensive, multi-part examination. The training is designed to meet the demands of a full-time astrology practice.
After completing my studies, I left the church and consider myself free from any religious or ideological affiliations.
Professional Development and Dedication
I completed my training in Indian astrology at the Astrovedic Academy. My primary examiner was Viney Aditya from Delhi, and my secondary examiner was Rafael Gil Brand from Germany. I continue my education through ongoing seminars led by both Indian and classical American teachers such as Dr. Charak, James Kelleher, Gayatri Devi Vasudev, Komilla Sutton, and Nalini Kanta Das.
I travel to India regularly to attend Prof. Jaya Sekhar’s seminar series in person. As a member of EV-VA e.V., the European Association for Vedic Astrology, I attend the association’s internationally organized conferences under the direction of the Astrovedic Academy. There, I also regularly take seminars for continuing education, in-depth study, and supervision. This academy counts a selection of highly renowned Indian astrologers among its lecturers.
In 2021, my astrology practice was admitted to the Dirah Academy Germany. As a supervisor, I now offer the two-part, written, and certified training course "Applied Vedic Astrology" by Roeland de Loof, the founder of the Dirah Academy International.
Jyotish – “Astrology of the Future”?
Why has Indian philosophy—which we often associate here with the term “spirituality” been gaining an increasing following since the time of Alexander the Great and his “intercultural import”? Why have yoga and Ayurveda become increasingly mainstream? And why, over the past 100 years, have so many Western astrologers broadened their horizons beyond the Western astrological system and stepped through this exotic door with such interest?
I would like to offer some insights and suggestions on these questions - as an astrologer who has now gained practical experience in both schools of thought.
